NHTC was recently named a Smart Rural CommunitySM (SRC) provider by NTCA – The Rural Broadband Association.
SRC is a network of communities powered by innovative rural broadband providers that are building a brighter future for small-town America. The program promotes rural broadband and its role in supporting innovative economic development, effective education, efficient energy distribution and use, state-of-the-art health care and other important issues for rural America.
In order to receive recognition as a SRC provider, NHTC was required to affirm that it offers 25/3 Mbps broadband to at least 50% of its service area; that it has broadband subscription rates of at least 50%; and that it is committed to program principles of collaboration and innovation.
NHTC general manager, Daniel Martin, is pleased with NHTC’s recent designation stating, “NHTC has been committed to providing the best available communications services to customers for more than seventy years by far exceeding the required 25/3 Internet speeds with 1,000/1,000. We serve our local communities with superior, fiber-fed broadband Internet service. Having access to state-of-the-art fiber broadband provides educational and economic opportunities on par with, or better than, some of the most connected regions of America.”
NTCA Chief Executive Officer Shirley Bloomfield also recognized NHTC for this achievement, noting, “We are so excited to welcome another Smart Rural Community provider into this growing network of innovative broadband providers delivering the Internet’s fastest speeds in some of the most remote and rural communities of our country. I applaud NHTC for their commitment to enabling cutting-edge technologies that drive innovation and promote economic development in their region and nationwide.”
NHTC is a 100% fiber-to-the-premise broadband provider offering speeds up to 1 Gbps. NHTC serves about 5,700 homes across approximately 190 square miles in northeast Marshall and southeast Madison counties. NHTC has also received several certifications including: ‘Gig-Capable Provider’ certification for the ability to offer Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps and ‘All-Fiber Service Provider’ for offering fiber-to-the-premise to 100% of their service territory. These certifications exemplify NHTC’s ongoing efforts to deliver the most technologically advanced communications services to local communities.
