September is Library Card Sign-Up Month: Discover What’s Waiting at New Hope Public Library
When was the last time you used your library card?
If it’s been a while, or if you don’t have one yet, September is the perfect time to discover everything available through New Hope Public Library.
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and as part of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) system, New Hope Public Library connects our community to much more than books. From digital resources and educational tools to movies, audiobooks, special programs, and more. A library card can open the door to resources for just about every age and interest.
More Than Books
Of course, you’ll find plenty of books at New Hope Public Library, but today’s library offers much more than shelves of great reads. New Hope Public Library brings people together through programs, clubs, activities, and educational opportunities for children and adults throughout the year.
One particularly popular activity is Beginner Mahjong, held Wednesdays at 1:00 pm. Whether you’re completely new to the game or looking for an opportunity to practice and meet other players, the program offers another way for members of the community to connect.
Book lovers can get in on the fun, too. The library’s Large Print Book Club meets at 11:00 am on the third Tuesday of each month, giving readers an opportunity to discover books and enjoy conversation with fellow readers.
The library also hosts children’s programming, including early literacy activities and special story times. Recently, for example, the New Hope Public Library welcomed Debbie Maddry, Community Coordinator with the Military Child Education Coalition, as a guest story time reader for an Early Literacy – Rainbow Fish program. Children’s Story Time is at 11:00 am every Wednesday.
With programs changing throughout the year, there’s almost always something new to discover.
- Beginner Mahjong Class
- Mahjong Board
- Large Print Book Club
- Childrens Story Time Rainbow Fish
- Children’s Story Time Special Guest
- Children’s Story Time
There’s a Library Program for Almost Everyone
Not sure what’s happening next?
New Hope Public Library makes it easy to keep up with upcoming activities. Adult and children’s event calendars are available at the library’s circulation desk, and events can also be found through the HMCPL’s online calendar here. From book clubs and children’s activities to games, educational programs, and community gatherings, checking the calendar regularly is a great way to discover something new to do close to home.
Your Library Card Unlocks More Than You Might Think
New Hope Public Library is part of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library system, which means a library card opens the door to resources extending far beyond the New Hope branch.
HMCPL cardholders have access to resources including:

A Free Resource That Can Save You Money
Using the library isn’t just a great way to learn and explore, it can also make a noticeable difference in the family budget. According to HMCPL, library patrons save an average of approximately $900 per year by using library resources and borrow an average of about 35 items annually.
Across the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library system, 18,720 people signed up for library cards over the past year, including 3,654 children and 15,066 adults. Those numbers show that even in a world filled with streaming services, smartphones, and instant information, the local library continues to play an important role in our communities.
Who Can Get a Library Card?
New Hope Public Library serves Madison County residents as part of the HMCPL system. Residents can visit an HMCPL location or begin the library card process online. A valid ID and proof of residence are required.
