What to Expect During the Construction Process

    Existing buried utilities will be marked in the right-of-way by either paint on the ground and/or colored flags.
  • 2

    Construction crews will dig to spot the existing utilities and begin boring conduit in the right-of-way. There will be orange conduits coming out of the ground during this phase.

    Underground handholes/vaults will be set over the orange conduit(s). Please note, there will be some cases where the conduit will remain exposed until the drop installation.

  • 4

    Fiber optic cable will be pulled through the conduit and handholes.

  • 5

    Clean up to be completed in areas where construction disturbed the ground. Please be patient as this clean-up work can be affected by weather and other circumstances. Rest assured, NHTC will correct any disturbances to the ground. If you need to report a disturbance, please contact NHTC Engineering Manager, Lara Till at 256-723-8866. Leave a message with your name, contact number, address, and a brief description of the issue and she will get back to you as soon as possible.

    Fiber optic cable splicing will begin.

    Fiber drops will be ran to the locations for people who are on the sign-up list.

    NHTC customer service will contact individuals to schedule service install. Please note that this may not happen immediately after your drop is ran. NHTC will be working in zones (refer to Zone Map).
