Outside Plant Technician (Close date 12/08/2020)

General Summary:

Installs, splices, tests, maintains, fiber optic lines and repairs customer premise voice, broadband and IPTV equipment. Wires and connects new equipment. Utilizes testing equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs and completes necessary network repairs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Installs voice, broadband and IPTV services and equipment on customer premises. Wires and connects new equipment as appropriate, explains equipment and services and answers customer questions
  • Maintains and repairs existing voice, broadband and IPTV customer premise equipment by testing to locate trouble, then determines and completes necessary repairs. Participates in on-call rotation
  • May confer with customers to further determine problems and acceptable resolutions
  • May place direct buried cable or aerial cable by operating plowing, digging, trenching, and/or aerial lift equipment.
  • Maintains buried cable by testing and repairing cable, performs related construction tasks as required
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management*

  • Associate’s Degree in Telecommunications or Networking, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in performing splicing and OLTS/OTDR testing desired
  • Working knowledge of inside and outside plant fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and aerial/underground construction.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Class A – Alabama driver’s license, have an excellent driving record and be insurable under the Company’s policy carrier.  Experience preferred.

Central Office Technician (Close date 12/08/2020)

General Summary:

Support the day-to-day operational requirements of keeping a multifaceted fiber network operating.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with 10gig Ethernet fiber ERPS (Ethernet Ring protection Switching) and Path Group rings.
  • Experience with GPON and Active fiber networks.
  • Installing and provisioning fiber blades preferably Adtran Active and GPON
  • Knowledge of network VLANs through the fiber networks to get services to the ONT.
  • Understanding DHCP, and IP addressing especially subnet mask.
  • Provisioning service profiles for Adtran, Occam, and Calix ONT’s.
  • Working experience with provisioning interfaces such as AOE, OCM, Metaview.
  • Using CLI (Command Line Interface) for provisioning and trouble shooting.
  • Understanding SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) fiber transceivers, ranges, and DB requirements on Active and Gpon.
  • Understanding alarm circuits, normally close normally open alarms indicators, network monitoring software.
  • Understanding of SONET (Synchornous Optical Network), OC3, OC12 networks.
  • Understanding of DS1 and DS3 multiplexing for T1’s and voice trunking.
  • Understanding of a soft-switch (MetaSwitch) and peripherals such as the SBC (Session Boarder Controller) server, Voicemail Server, and Service Assurance System for trouble shooting.
  • Understanding of RS232 for direct management connections to related equipment – baud rate, port assignment, stop_bits, flow control (rts/cts).
  • Power systems, rectifiers, DC and AC power, and inverters. Able to lift and maneuver up to a 100lb battery.
  • Generators and transfer switches.
  • Remote cabinet/hut service and site maintenance.
  • Knowledge of AC & DC power distribution and rectifier systems. IP Networking. Soldering. Electrical wiring. Ability to detect and troubleshooting equipment & network alarms. Ability to learn and use various system-related programs in a Windows environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to install/remove, maintain configure/repair the complex switching equipment used to provide Data, Video & Voice Telecommunication Networks & Services. Systems include:

  • Adtran TA5000 FTTH Active and Gpon Ethernet equipment
  • Occam/Calix FTTH Active Ethernet equipment
  • Metaswitch VP3510 Integrated Softswitch
  • Install & troubleshooting T1 circuits

Other responsibilities include being on call for the Central Office 24/7 every other week. Working alongside CSRs and Outside Plant personnel with service orders and assisting customers with problems of Internet, Video, and Voice services.
